Chapter Begins “Burn the Mortgage” Campaign
You Count on Red Cross; Can Red Cross Count on You?
The Western Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross, serving Knox, Warren and Henderson Counties has been presented with both a challenge and an opportunity.
The Red Cross was notified that it needed to address the mortgage and significantly reduce it or eliminate it all together. The Red Cross Board decided that this is an opportunity to eliminate mortgage debt so that in the future contributions can be invested in local services to help the community. The chapter is financially sound and meets current obligations but doesn’t have the capacity to pay off the $305,000 mortgage at this time.
On April 18th the Red Cross officially kicked off its “Burn the Mortgage” campaign. Campaign Co-chairs Dave Beversdorf and Al Urena, along with the Board and other Red Cross volunteers and staff, are reaching out to area businesses and individuals to make this urgent project a success. “No contribution is too small; just as everyone is needed to make any project a success, gifts of all sizes are needed,” stressed Campaign Co-Chair Al Urena. With large contributions there are opportunities for having a room or the building named in honor of the donor.
For more information or to discuss a contribution or pledge, call the Red Cross at 344–1611. Just as the community counts on Red Cross to be there, Red Cross is counting on the community to help “Burn the Mortgage”.
